Whiskey Row is one of Arizona's, not to mention Prescott's, most popular streets. At the beginning of the century, saloons lined the street. Some say there were four to five blocks of saloons! One of those was the Palace Saloon. It's still there today. The row ended down at the old Santa Fe Depot, now restored as an office complex. Several movies have been filmed in Prescott using the old Palace Saloon, and there are rumors of Chinese tunnels that run under it. We asked our own First Lady of History, Melissa Ruffner about that. She thinks that's all it is ...rumors. Still, we wonder.....
Whiskey Row is still a favorite for both locals and visitors alike. From The Galloping Goose to the old Saint Michael's Hotel, you'll find a variety of stores sure to please and you'll almost think you hear the distant sounds of old time saloon music as you stroll down this historic landmark of Prescott. With plenty of great shopping,
restaurants and The Prescott Brewing Company located in Bashford Courts, we can guarantee you'll be glad you came to visit! Stop in the Plaza Cafe and say hi to Chris. When the town burnt down July 14th 1900, it's said by the old timers here, the drunks in the Palace Saloon drug the bar and a couple of kegs of beer out of the flames and staggered across the street to the Courthouse Plaza with it. We don't know if that's the real story or not, but the original bar was in fact saved and is now back in the Palace! It's now one of Prescott's popular restaurants. It's also a place where you'll find great entertainment. Still on Whiskey Row, the old Palace Saloon is now a great restaurant.
